1. Feed the Buffalo
The buffalo are a favorite attraction on the Historic Frawley Ranch. The head herd bull, “Buster”, is sure to click his heels together if you give him a few morsels of cow cake. There’s nothing quite like seeing the long blue tongue of a buffalo reaching out for a treat! With about two dozen cows in the herd, a highlight for locals is seeing the tiny baby calves in the late spring. Jump on a guided tour of the Frawley Ranch every Friday and Saturday morning to get in on the buffalo feeding frenzy!
2. Hike the 5.4 Mile Trail
In the next few weeks, a 5.4 mile walking, hiking, biking trail will open for Elkhorn Ridge Golf Estate home owners, golfers, and resort goers. The trail has stacked loops that allow you to choose your difficulty level and length. For a nice stroll on the historic ranch, take the small lower loop made of recycled asphalt. To see the incredible sights from Elkhorn Peak, hike or ride your mountain bike along the upper trail that winds along the rim of Polo Creek Canyon. No matter which loop you choose, you’re sure to have a blast exploring the history and beauty of the Frawley Ranch.
3. Try the Molly Frawley Panini
The Frawley Fork is a quaint brunch bistro inside the Elkhorn Ridge Resort Lodge with an array of fresh and colorful food options. From grandma’s baked oatmeal with apples and peaches, to the homemade Buster’s Biscuits and Gravy, you’re sure to find an option that will tickle your taste buds. The Molly Frawley Panini and Hank’s Helping are two of the locals’ favorite options because of their ties to the original ranch owners, Hank and Molly Frawley. The Molly Frawley Panini has chicken, melty mozzarella, fresh cucumbers and tomatoes all on toasty panini bread. If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, try one of their espresso drinks like their salted caramel white chocolate mocha. The Frawley Fork is being called a “hidden gem in the Northern Hills”!
4. Drop-In for a Class
The Elkhorn Ridge Golf Club is always full of activities and classes to help you better your golf game. Throughout the summer, they offer multiple “Drop-In Classes” with no sign up necessary. With both men’s and women’s classes, the staff provides excellent instruction for players of all types and skill levels. After you brush up on your form, hit the course and play all 18 stunning holes. The front nine sits in the shadow of Elkhorn Peak with its signature elk track bunkers while the back nine winds through the limestone cliffs of Polo Creek Canyon. With 333 feet of elevation change, you’ll see the peaks of the Northern Black Hills from every angle!
5. Play Pickle Ball
Pickleball was invented in 1965 but has been gaining popularity rapidly in the last several years. It’s a fun sport that combines different elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. Play on our outdoor court, next to our basketball and volleyball courts. If you’re not in the mood for a competitive match, swim laps in the Elkhorn Ridge Resort Pool or relax at night in one of two hot tubs while the kids play nearby on the playground. Elkhorn Ridge Resort has activities for the whole family!
